The Indian government has blocked 118 mobile apps from Chinese developers, including Tencent’s PUBG Mobile.
Analysts compare the situation with the attempt by US President Donald Trump to block TikTok in the United States. Mobile Battle Royale has been by far the most popular and lucrative app in the country with over 200 million downloads in the region. This is a huge blow to the local industry. PUBG Mobile may not be very popular in the US and Western Europe, but it is a colossal esports phenomenon in regions like India. The scale is comparable to if the United States suddenly decided to block the League of Legends.
At the same time, Call of Duty Mobile managed to avoid blocking, although Tencent’s internal studio TiMi Studios is responsible for its development. It helped that Activision became the global publisher of the project, and not Tencent itself.
However, if you are in India, then you can easily bypass the block and continue playing if you download one of the VPN apps. Using a VPN helps to hide your real IP address and therefore you can avoid bans of various games.
